SAINT STEFANO’S ABBEY, the mausoleum of the lords of Padua
The Abbey of Santo Stefano is a jewel built in Due Carrare on the foundations of an early medieval oratory, it is the oldest monastery in the province of Padua. A document, dating back to 1027, reports the donation made by Litolfo Da Carrara, head of the Carraresi family, for the construction of the monastery. The abbey, which most splendor goes back to the lordship of the Da Carrara family domain in Padua, was sacked in 1405 by the Venetians but still preserves the mausoleum of Marsilio Da Carrara, second lord of Padua.
