From Museum to Museum to the discovery of Chioggia

To pursue philologically the history of Chioggia through documents, works and artifacts, maintained in the six city museums, it’s compulsory to begin from the “Museo Civico della Laguna South San Francesco fuori le Mura”, where testimonies linked to the Roman and medieval period of the city are preserved.

Then going to the “Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art” where, instead, it is traced the almost millennial history of the diocese of Chioggia to admire the works of the most important painters of the artistic panorama, such as: Paolo Veneziano, Cima da Conegliano, Giovanni Bellini, Palma il Vecchio, and by sculptors like Andrea Brustolon and contemporary Peter Rockwell who decorated the cloister.

For the figurative arts a visit to the Church of the Holy Trinity, home of the Diocesan Art Gallery.

Is not to be missed, and the visit to the Clock Tower Museum, with the oldest tower clock in the world, of which we have trace since 1386.

And, in a city deeply linked to fishing, the “G. Olivi Adriatic Dysoology Museum” dedicated to the lagoon and Adriatic ecosystems.

And finally the “Museum of the Filippini Fathers”, which can be visited on request, with many relics related to life community of fathers preserves the ‘PactumClugiae’, a document linked to the “salt of Chioggia” among the oldest in the city.
